The former French naval uniform was first hailed a high fashion item by Coco Chanel in 1917 ( Her again ! )
Over the years, It has been worn by numerous celebrities, from John Wayne,
James Dean, Brigitte Bardot, John Lennon, Pablo Picasso … to Madonna and Kate Middleton, to name but a few.
A hundred years later, the BRETON Top has been seen on catwalks countless times
notably at Jean Paul Gaultier. He included à mariner stripe in every collection of his 50 years career, and made it its signature.
This season the BRETON Top was back in the hands of luxury designers, from Balmain, Louis Vuitton, Loewe, Dior, and also younger ones like VTMNTS, Erdem, JW Anderson etc…
